Reading Time: 2 Minutes
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!” 9 And he said, “Go and say to this people:
‘Keep listening, but do not comprehend;
keep looking, but do not understand.’
10 Make the mind of this people dull,
and stop their ears,
and shut their eyes,
so that they may not look with their eyes,
and listen with their ears,
and comprehend with their minds,
and turn and be healed.”
11 Then I said, “How long, O Lord?” And he said:
“Until cities lie waste
and houses without people,
and the land is utterly desolate . . .
Can you imagine having a profound experience with God (Isaiah 6.1-7) and then being told that nobody would listen to you?
I have preached for a long time. I have had personal experiences with God that were life changing. Some of the greatest joys of my life has been to see other people transformed by hearing God’s word and responding in faith to it. I can’t imagine the deep soul sorrow of a preacher whose entire career was colored by people who did not listen to his or her words.
How can what happened to Isaiah take place?
God’s word either sets us free from our self-centered lives or it further hardens our self-centered inner person. Isaiah 7 tells the story of a king who would neither listen to the prophet nor to God. God’s word through Isaiah did nothing more than harden him in his own self-will.
It may be difficult to surrender our self-will to God. It is scary to turn over our present and future to someone other than our own self. Yet, who better to surrender to than our loving heavenly Father.
Dear God, I desire to give my life to you. I don’t want a hardened inside condition. I want one that can hear and respond to your word. Please help me surrender more of my life to you.
New Study Begins Tomorrow
I am moving to the Gospel of John for our study tomorrow. The greatest study we can participate in is to know the greatest Being who walked the earth – Jesus.
