John 11.22 – [Martha said this to Jesus.] “But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.”
I pray for my deepest soul’s sincere desire to be fulfilled in the right time and in the right way.
What does the Bible say about desire? Genesis 4 tells the story of Cain and Abel.
Cain was tempted to harm his brother, Abel. God gave him this direction: “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it” (Genesis 4.7).
Sin desires certain things for me. Sin crouches by the door of my mind, seeking to influence my life. God tells me that I have the ability to rule over the desires sin creates in my inside condition. Note please, God never asks someone to do something that doesn’t also give them the power to achieve it.
Psalm 37:4 is a well known promise concerning our desires: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
I focus my attention today on the deepest desires of my inner life. I choose to delight in the Lord, trusting that he will both purify my desires and grant them to me.
What about you? Please join me in asking God to purify our desires. May God give us victory over sin that crouches outside the door of our heart, seeking to harm us and others.
May God draw us all into such a deep relationship of love with him, that he is able to grant us our deepest soul sincere desire.
