Promise and Prayer – Day 12 (Friday, Week 2)

Jesus’ Promise

John 14.13 – “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

Suggested Prayer

I pray for your kingdom to come in earth as it is in heaven.

Personal Reflection

In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, your will be done” (Matthew 6.10).

His direction to people is to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6.33).

A question I have to ask myself is how often during the day do I think about God’s kingdom and what living in his kingdom means to me? Do I even know what God’s kingdom is all about?

I believe that regularly praying the prayer for God’s kingdom to come in my life will change how I look at life. “Regular” is the key word. God will use the prayer to align my life with what is truly most important in life. God will respond to the prayer and conform my life to his kingdom values.

Dallas Willard, one of my favourite teachers, talks about living the “Jesus-kind-of-life.” I believe praying regularly for God’s kingdom will open the door for God to draw me into a life that resembles the one Jesus lived.

Your Turn

Thanks for continuing this second week of the prayer experiment with me. As you can see, I believe that praying these prayers is not a mere one time event. Praying for God’s kingdom to come in our lives is the “deep water” of the spiritual life.

My encouragement to you is that you keep on praying for God’s kingdom to come in your life. Pray it regularly, several times a day. Then, look for ways that God is drawing you into the Jesus-kind-of-life.
