Getting the Most Out of Luke

Rudy Ross and I are finishing our study of the Book of Deuteronomy with today’s video on the Bob Spradling YouTube channel. Thank you for watching the videos.

Tomorrow will be our first video on the Gospel of Luke. We will be trying a slightly different approach, as we study Luke. There will be three elements to the blog and the videos.

(1) An examination of the text.

In tomorrow’s article, we will discover that Luke wanted to provide a very accurate account of the life and ministry of Jesus. His goal was to help Theophilus deepen his faith.

Theophilus means, “lover or friend of God,” and Luke’s Gospel has increased the faith of multitudes of lovers of God throughout the centuries.

Each day, we will examine the text and point out insights that we hope increased the faith of people who watch the videos or read the blog.

(2) Discussion Questions.

After we prayerfully read a Bible passage, the next step should include a time of mediation and application.

I will provide discussion questions for your consideration, but I will also share my response to the questions. In the videos, both Rudy and I will discuss the questions.

(3) Prayer

The goal of Bible reading, meditation, and application is to connect with God in a meaningful way.

I pray slowly through the message of Luke as a part of my morning time alone with God. In the blog articles, I will share with readers what I prayed based on the Bible text.

The greatest benefit you will receive from these blog articles will be when you turn the Scripture into prayer and connect with God. Once you engage in this type of praying, you will find what followers of Jesus have known for centuries.

Tomorrow’s Text

The first three chapters of Luke are an introduction to our Savior, Jesus Christ.

The first four verses are like reading the cover, table of contents, and introduction to a book.

I think you will be surprised and blessed by what God will communicate to you in four short verses.

One More Thing

I am aware that the sound quality of our YouTube videos is not very good. I am working to improve it, but I am not very adept at technology. Hopefully, they will be better in seven days.

Please communicate with us either in the comment section on YouTube or

If you have a prayer request, please email me at or private message me on Facebook. The Maywood prayer team will pray for you.
