God Will Not Give Up on You

Isaiah Says

Isaiah 4.2-4

On that day the branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land shall be the pride and glory of the survivors of Israel. 3 Whoever is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy, everyone who has been recorded for life in Jerusalem, 4 once the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by a spirit of burning.

Some Thoughts

Many of my good friends were formerly people that family, friends and society had given up on. They seemed to be hopelessly addicted to drugs, alcohol, and criminal behavior. Praise God that he does not give up on us. One of the joys of my life is seeing God work miracles in the lives of hopeless addicts on nearly a weekly basis. His words in Ezekiel prove true, as God displays his gracious love to people.

Ezekiel 36:25-26 I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

When our own best thinking and our self-centered activity has brought us to rock bottom, God is willing to change our future. As we connect in a meaningful way with Jesus, who is the “branch of the Lord,” he removes our wilfulness and self-centered inside condition (“the heart of stone”) and gives us a willing heart (“a heart of flesh”).

Today’s Prayer

Dear God, thank you for your amazing grace that never gives up on us. Thank you for making us new by giving us a new inside condition. We praise your goodness.

  1. I was one of these people that had many problems with drugs and alcohol, thanks to Gods grace and true friends I have been sober for 5 years now. I owe this all to God for never giving up on someone like me. Praise God!

  2. Growing up learning alcoholic behaviors from my addicted parents I was the most selfish alcoholic during my drinking years , but the verse “I will remove from your body a heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh”, reminds me today to look back at where God entered my life through my recovery and the transformation I can only Thank my higher power God for. There is no other explanation in the world that can turn this heart of stone into the woman God has made me today.
