Go take a bath!

Reading Time: 2 Minutes

Isaiah Says

Isaiah 1.16-17

16 Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
    remove the evil of your doings
    from before my eyes;
cease to do evil,
17    learn to do good;
seek justice,
    rescue the oppressed,
defend the orphan,
    plead for the widow.

Some Thoughts

When we stink so badly that God doesn’t want to go around us, a spiritual bath is desperately needed. God stands ready to help us, but it is clear that it is our responsibility to choose to remove evil from our lives. Once it is gone, it is to be gone completely.

We may be so distant from God and his ways that we have to “learn to do good.” A great place to learn how to do good is to immerse ourselves in the life of Jesus by regularly reading the Gospels (the first four books of the New Testament).

God’s justice involves caring for the vulnerable people of our world. I am humbled by the efforts of people I know who assist the still suffering addict, the homeless and immigrants.

Children fit the “vulnerable” category, too. I praise God for people who see the education of and ministry to children as important.

Today’s Prayer

Dear God, we change our way of life; we take a spiritual bath today. We praise you for people who serve the vulnerable, suffering and broken. We ask you to show us how we can be a part of your healing love.

  1. Cleanse me, Lord. Wash away the road-weary grime that life leaves behind. Remove all traces of mud splattered by hurt feelings, regrets, exhaustion. Refresh my soul. Purify my attitude towards others – polish the lens of Your shining light. In this new day, there is hope because there is You, Father. I praise You for mighty works and merciful blessings. King of Glory, Lord of all.

  3. Hi Matt. First, I rejoice that you are willing to serve children. You have lots to give to them. I will pray with you to know where God wants you to serve. A willingness to serve is a great statement of God’s work in your life.
