We all face times when our problems seem larger than life. In today’s blog article, we’ll share two miracles that show how our problems are never insurmountable when God is in control.
Help for a Borrowed Ax
I hate borrowing things because I always end up breaking them. Then, I have to replace the item and apologize to the owner.
In the first miracle story, a fellow prophet of Elijah was chopping wood by a stream when the axe head fell into the water. He asked Elijah for help. Elijah threw a stick into the water, and by God’s power, the axe head floated, solving the problem (2 Kings 6:1-7).
In today’s YouTube video, Rudy Ross explains that this is about more than just returning an ax head to its owner. He views the stick as a symbol of the cross.
It’s where all our problems, sins, rejection of God, and rebellion are addressed by God’s mercy. It’s not a simple miracle of putting a stick in water but about His beloved son dying on the cross for our sins.
Once we’ve dealt with our biggest need, which is the forgiveness of our sins, we can then focus on smaller needs. The miracle of raising the axe head shows God’s willingness to help with both big and small problems.
Nothing is too small to bring to the Lord.
Divine Protection
The next situation was a bigger problem where the king of Syria wanted to catch Elisha. God told Elisha about the Syrians’ plans, and he warned the Israelis. The king of Syria found out Elisha was the one informing them and sent his soldiers to capture him (2 Kings 6:8-14).
The miracle happened in this way:
When an attendant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. His servant said, “Alas, master! What shall we do?”
He replied, “Do not be afraid, for there are more with us than there are with them.”
Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the servant, and he saw; the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha (2 Kings 6:15-17).
It’s unlikely we’ll face a foreign king attacking us with an army and need angelic protection.
However, we all know about opposition from others, unseen dangers, highway travel risks, stumbling in our yards, overwhelming situations, or spiritual battles. These are everyday occurrences.
Is there an invisible hand of God watching over us during these times? The testimony of the Bible and history tells us to trust God’s activity in our lives.
These two miracle stories are encouraging because they show that God sees everything.
- He cares about both the small and big things in our lives. Even if we don’t always notice,
- God steps in to help His children.
- He provides solutions beyond our understanding.
Today, let’s thank God for His abundant grace.
