End Time Discussion and Application

When I read the Bible, I frequently speed read passages that deal with the end times. They are confusing to me and troubling. Rudy Ross, who produces YouTube videos with me, is a good complement to me because he has studied the end times extensively. I recommend that you look at our YouTube videos to listen to Rudy’s thoughts.

If you read the prophet Daniel from chapter 7 to the end of the book, you will encounter disturbing scenes that highlight end time events. Jesus referenced Daniel as he spoke to his disciples on the Mount of Olives.

Below is a summary of Jesus’ message (generated by the AI program Gemini) of Jesus’ words to his disciples both then and now.

In Matthew 24:15-31, Jesus describes a future time of great suffering, worse than any before. He warns his followers to flee Jerusalem when they see an abomination that will desecrate the temple. This terrible tribulation will be cut short, however, for the sake of the elect, those who believe in Jesus.

Jesus then warns against false prophets and messiahs who will appear during this time. He emphasizes that his return will be unmistakable, visible to everyone on earth. When he returns, he will send his angels to gather his followers from all over the world.

Please take a few minutes and read the passage in your Bible. Below are some questions that may cause you to think about how to apply the passage to your life.

Questions for Reflection and Application

(1) Preparation: The passage emphasizes urgency and preparedness. How can I be ready to respond faithfully in times of crisis, even if they are not as dramatic as the events described here?

(2) Discernment: False prophets and messiahs are a warning. How am I developing my ability to discern truth from deception? Where do I turn for reliable guidance in my life?

(3) Focus: The world can offer many distractions, both in times of hardship and in everyday life. How can I stay focused on what truly matters, my faith and relationship with God?

(4) Compassion: The passage mentions the suffering of others. How can I cultivate compassion and a desire to help those in need, especially during difficult times?

(5) Hope: Despite the warnings, the passage also offers hope – the ultimate victory of good and the gathering of the faithful. What is my source of hope, and how can I share it with others?
