The Role of Israel in God’s Plan

God is moving human history toward a goal, and that goal is described in the Book of Zechariah.

And the Lord will become king over all the earth; on that day the Lord will be one and his name one (Zechariah 14.9).

The Creator of everything will be recognized as the King over all the Earth. His name, that is, His reputation and His understanding among the people, will be one with our respect and awe for Him.

God’s blessing for all humans that was promised to Abraham will be realized on the day that God becomes King and we recognize His majestic character.

“I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.

“I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12.2-3).

From the blessings bestowed upon Abraham to the ultimate culmination of history with God’s reign as King, Israel occupies a crucial role. Throughout history, they have frequently faced persecution, hatred, and mistreatment.

As history approaches its end, nations will unite against Israel to undermine God’s intentions.

The word of the Lord concerning Israel: “Thus says the Lord, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the human spirit within:

“See, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of reeling for all the surrounding peoples; it will be against Judah also in the siege against Jerusalem.

“On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it shall grievously hurt themselves. And all the nations of the earth shall come together against it” (Zechariah 12.1-3)

When considering Israel within the scope of global news, it’s essential to recognize that God is the Creator and Lord of all history. While we cannot definitively say that current events in Israel are direct components of God’s divine blueprint, it is clear that ultimately, they will align with His overarching plan.

In the meantime, we should stay alert and dedicated to prayer as we monitor global developments.

The prophets frequently rebuked their leaders for favoring human decisions over placing their trust in God. Our support for God’s stance on Israel does not require us to endorse its leaders.

We must understand God’s intentions so that we can align with Him through prayer and support His divine plans.

If you have followed our study through the Minor Prophets, you may have flagged some portions of Scripture that particularly resonated with you.

I suggest that one of the things you can do, given God’s goal for human history and the role of Israel, is to go back through, look at those highlighted portions in your Bible, and turn them into prayers.

As you do this, you will be serving God and His purposes on earth.
