Wisdom: the Ultimate Shield Against Life’s Deceptions

Lady Wisdom comes to us, desiring to enter our hearts and soul. Let’s remember, that Lady Wisdom is God’s wisdom, seeking to penetrate the depths of our being.

For wisdom will come into your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul
(Proverbs 2.10)

The heart holds a special place in the Old Testament. It is mentioned 858 times, 46 of which are in Proverbs. In the Old Testament, it’s believed that the heart is responsible for many of the body’s functions.

As a multi-tasker, the heart is a mix of intellect, emotions, and will. It’s where you think, reflect, and make decisions.

When we fear the Lord, we love God with all our being, humbly receive His guidance, and obey it. This action takes place in the heart and is reflected by the way we live our lives.

“Soul” in the Bible refers to our entire being. When we say that knowledge will be pleasant to our soul, it means our whole being will receive God’s wisdom and knowledge as something beneficial.

Prudence and Understanding

Prudence will watch over you,
and understanding will guard you.
(Proverbs 2.11)

In today’s video, Rudy Ross discusses the root meaning of prudence as “nude.” It happens when we remove all of our false protective coverings and become completely honest with God.

When we have taken off our false self, we can replace it with the full armor of God that Paul mentions in Ephesians 6:10-17.

Not only do we have a false self, but we are also inundated by voices full of false and misleading opinions.

When we accept wisdom into our hearts, it protects us from those who would capture us by their persuasive speech.

It will save you from the way of evil,
from those who speak perversely.
(Proverbs 2.12)

Speech has a dynamic, spiritual power. It impacts our world for good and evil.

Each day, we receive seductive messages that try to pull us off the pathway of our walk with God.

Who forsake the paths of uprightness
to walk in the ways of darkness.
(Proverbs 2.13)

When we walk with God, we can count on a straight path, a safe path that follows the established order by God.

The faithless walk in ways of darkness. They are crooked and cut off from the moral life that provides safety and freedom.

The inner rottenness of those who would pull us away from a life with God is shown by their delight in perversity and distortion of moral visions.

Who rejoice in doing evil
and delight in the perverseness of evil.
(Proverbs. 2.14)

Those who follow these practices do not fear the Lord. They despise Him and do not trust His word, but instead trust their own devious and oppressive conduct.

Those whose paths are crooked
and who are devious in their ways.
(Proverbs 2.15)

Three Seductive Voices

Historical Christianity has identified three voices of temptation. The human self, called the flesh, is one. The world’s system is the second, and the devil is the third.

Most of my article has focused on how the world’s system amplifies the voices the evil one uses to draw us off the path of the fear of the Lord.

We need to recognize that we have an inner voice, our voice, which also will lead us in the wrong direction.

When we recognize wisdom is not an entity separate from God, we come to Him. Humbly, we accept His guidance and follow it obediently.

This is the best pathway to protect us from the three voices who seek to divert us from being aligned with our loving Lord.
