Make the most of the time

John 7.32-36 – The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering such things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent temple police to arrest him.

33 Jesus then said, “I will be with you a little while longer, and then I am going to him who sent me. 34 You will search for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”

35 The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? Does he intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What does he mean by saying, ‘You will search for me and you will not find me’ and ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”

How tragic are the words, “You will search for me, but you will not find me”?

Isaiah had it right:
“Seek the Lord while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55.6).

When living in difficult times, it is tempting to turn to old habits and addictions. Even though they are destructive, they are familiar and a dangerous “go-to” when our inside condition is unsettled.

Both Isaiah and Jesus give us a better way. Isaiah instructs us to seek the Lord and to call out to him in our time of need.

Jesus warns us in these verses to make the most of our time. Now, is the time to seek a deeper relationship with Jesus.

If you are thirsty . . .

John 7.37-39 – On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, 38 and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’”

39 Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Notice, Jesus did not say, “If you are committed or surrendered.” Tell Jesus that you are in need and open the door of your life to his activity.

Revelation 3.20 is a favorite verse of mine that I use when praying. It tells me that my need in life is Jesus knocking at the door of my heart. When I open the door through prayer, I have his promise that he will come in and meet my need.

Revelation 3.20 – “Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.”

What is troubling you today? Now is the time to seek the Lord for your troubles and the problems that surround us. Let’s seek the Lord and open the door of our needs to Jesus through prayer.

Today’s Prayer

Dear Jesus, I know you are aware of the corona virus and the distress it is causing. First, may we seek you and not our addictions at this time. Second, we open the door of our need to your health and healing. We trust you for your solution to our need. We praise you for your love.
