The Cost of War: Part 5

The Cost of War Project can be found at http://watson.brown.edu/costsofwar/. I hope readers of my blog will access the information on this website.

Getting Our Money’s Worth

Investing $230 billion in war creates 1.6 million jobs. Investing $230 billion in health care creates 3.2 mission jobs.

The cost to every US taxpayer of US wars since 2001 is $23,386. Measured in goods and services, it equates to a new mid-sized car, a down-payment on a home or one year in a university.

Our costs are nothing to the trauma caused to children, who have lived through “shock-and-awe” bombing campaigns.

Judgment on Stumbling Blocks

Jesus made it clear that there is a judgment reserved for those who put stumbling blocks before vulnerable children. He said, “If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were fastened around your neck and you were drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matthew 18.6).

How will a child ever want to follow a Christian’s God after experiencing the trauma of war initiated by a so-called “Christian” nation?

Prayer for Today

Dear God, please help those who work for peace to be effective in their mission.
