Your Life’s Masterpiece

Tuesday, June 20, 2017 – Masterpiece Mondays

What is the masterpiece that is your life?

In Jon Gordon’s book, “The Carpenter,” the question is asked, “What is the masterpiece of your life?” Gordon invites the readers of his excellent book to consider what kind of masterpiece should be their life’s purpose. One of my spiritual friends and I are both asking this question of ourselves. We are prayerfully considering what the masterpiece, the remainder of our life, should be.

Masterpiece Mondays

Each Monday’s blog post will journal the progress of the masterpiece that God desires for my life (and yours, too). I would be honored for blog readers to join the process of intentionally thinking about what is really important for their lives. Your comments will be greatly appreciated.

Priority Masterpiece

Where do you begin to consider the purpose of your life. There is no one better to inform our thinking than Jesus Christ.

Jesus was asked, “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matthew 22.36-40).

In considering the creations of a masterpiece (the rest of my life) the first priority will be to love God with all my being. No doubt, this is not some laborious job. After all, God is the most creative, most intelligent, most joyful, most loving, etc. Being of all. To live in a love relationship with the Greatest Being of All is an incredible opportunity. To live with him is a great joy and privilege – not some job that must be done.

VIM

One of my favorite Christian leaders, Dr. Dallas Willard, says any plan to achieve a goal must include VIM – Vision, Intentionality and the Means to achieve the goal.

The vision is clear. My life’s purpose is to love God with all I’ve got. I am also called to give love and only love to others, but that is material for another article.

Intentionality is very important to the achievement of a goal. The application of time and energy is part of the process. Much of Masterpiece Mondays will include reporting on the success or failure of my intentionality to live in a love relationship with God.

There are various Means that have been used by Christians for the centuries to deepen their love relationship with God. I am familiar with many of them. I plan to experiment with these various means of engaging with God and describing them to you in the blog.

Prayer for Tuesday, June 20, 2017

Dear God, thank you for the ability to live in a personal, love relationship with you. Please help us to live with you to the fullest.
